Faculty Information Guide
Checking Out Materials:
A Lamar faculty, or staff photo ID is required to check out materials and use the computer lab
A LSC-PA ID will enable you to check out materials at all Lamar Libraries and the Port Arthur Public Library (regardless of where you reside).
Faculty/staff check-outs are for one semester, with the exception of "Best Sellers" which check out for two weeks (14 days) and videos (VHS & DVDs) which check out for one week (7 days) with a 5 day grace period.
Faculty/staff may renew the same materials up to three times over the phone or on the library information request form.
Reference books may be checked out, for a short time, with confirmation from a reference librarian.
Fines are levied for overdue and lost materials.

Automated Library System: The catalog and all databases to which the library subscribes are available online in the Library, anywhere on campus and off campus through the Proxy Server on the Library's Web Page. All computers on campus can access the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) and all databases to which the library subscribes. Over 27,000 magazines, newspapers and journals provide full text articles covering subjects such as nursing, business, literature, art and computers.
Orientations to the system are available by contacting or extension 6216.

Title Requests: The Library staff welcomes faculty requests for books orders. Print and non-print acquisitions are reviewed and orders placed. Faculty will be notified when materials are received. Existing collections, usage patterns and costs affect purchase decisions.
Orientations: Librarians offer library orientation tours and research instruction for your classes in the classroom, in the library, or both. Sessions typically last from 30 minutes to a full hour. Advance copies of research assignments and syllabi are appreciated. Please contact Peter Kaatrude at (984-6216) to schedule orientations or fill in the Tours/Research Schedule Form.

Students may schedule individual research time with Reference Librarians.
Research Guides: Library research guides on specific topics are available for various disciplines, both in print and on the library's web page.
Computer Laboratory: There are 47 computers available in the lab. Software is networked and includes Word, Excel, Access, and other software requested by faculty members. The computer lab is open during the regular library hours.
Reserve Materials: Faculty members may place print and non-print materials on reserve for their classes. Reserve material requests should be made as soon as possible for each semester. Please give these materials to Myra Thompson or Peter Kaatrude.
Interlibrary Loans: Other books and journal articles may be ordered from libraries using the interlibrary loan service. Reference librarians will search the holdings at Gates first and then order requests through ILL if necessary. You may use the Interlibrary Form online.
A/V Rooms: There are four A/V rooms available to students. Rooms are equipped with television monitor, DVD/VHS player. Cassette players are available upon request.
Multi-Purpose Conference Room: The Conference room is available to faculty and students with as much advance notice as possible. The room is equipped with audio-visual equipment, a data projector, screen, and is Internet capable.
Archives: The Library has an archival room with different collections: Texana, Rare books, and materials on the university. Appointments must be made to view materials. Materials are not checked out, must be viewed in the library.
Audiovisual Equipment: Most classrooms/labs are equipped with VCR/monitors. Remote controls are available for check-out in the library. Other AV equipment available to faculty are cassette/recorder/players, headphones, overhead projectors, opaque projector, slide projectors, projection screens, and video cameras An audio cassette duplicator can be used in the library. TexShare: Employees and students may receive a TexShare Library Card at the Circulation Desk. This card enables the user to check out books from participating college and university libraries in Texas.
