Campus Carry Law
Senate Bill 11

The 84th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 11 and was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott. Senate Bill 11 will allow individuals with a concealed handgun license (CHL) to carry a concealed weapon on public university and college campuses in Texas beginning August 1, 2016.

Each Texas State University System component has been asked to establish campus specific-policies for implementing the new law. The Lamar State College Port Arthur Task Force, comprised of faculty, staff, and student representatives, is working closely with the campus community to develop regulations and policies that will keep our campus safe.

Lamar State College Port Arthur will be hosting public forums for faculty, staff, students, and community members to seek their input on the places, events, and special circumstances that should be considered in determining whether concealed handguns may be prohibited. The first forum was held October 26th, 2015. Additional forums will be held in the near future. Please check the website for future dates.

An online survey has been created for those that may not feel comfortable addressing an audience in a public setting. You can access the online survey here. The Task Force asks that all surveys are completed no later than November 23, 2015. If you have any questions or comments not covered by the survey, please send them to campuscarry@lamarpa.edu.
